Paid Or Free?
What do you all think? I’ve been thinking about this for the past week or so…
I am currently hesitating whether I should make my substack blog completely free to read or add a paid subscription to it for certain posts. Personally, I feel like I’m too early in the stages of blogging to do a paid subscription and I didn’t realize until recently that I have the pledge option turned on for subscribers. I actually might turn that off for now until I feel ready.
Yes, I want to make money from my creative projects. I’m happy and very much appreciate that people want to buy my products and support me in any way that they can (thank you so much, you guys are super awesome!), but I feel like it’s the product I should make money from not the process which I like to talk about and more via my substack blog. I feel like by putting a paid option it will also limit those who might like to read certain blog posts and people miss out then. Also, I never used Stripe before or heard of it until I used Substack, the payment service that is used by this blogging platform. And what if I create a series of blogs on here and compile it all into a book later on in a more organized way, I don’t want anyone thinking they’re paying twice for the same product. I also personally prefer selling tangible content than digital content, it feels like you actually bought something then and I feel is more worthwhile to sell.
What do you all think? Should I put my blog as a paid subscription at some point down the road? Please comment below if you can and have the time, I’d like to hear everyone’s take on this!
Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next blog post!
